A committee set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of two young sisters at the General Hospital Zuru has commenced its sitting in Zuru Local Government Area, Kebbi.
The development was confirmed in a statement by Ahmad Hussaini Aliyu, Media Aide to the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Kebbi State.
The sitting, held at the hospital, featured testimonies from key witnesses, including hospital staff and the parents of the deceased. Medical personnel present included the Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Thomas Gode, the Medical Officer, Dr. Mohammed Fakai, and staff nurses who attended to the girls from admission up to their third day at the hospital. All were cross-examined by the panel.
The parents, led by Ibrahim Abdullahi Shuni, along with other family members, also gave accounts of events during the period their daughters were admitted.
As part of its investigation, the committee met with hospital staff to examine internal challenges, including communication gaps that may have affected patient care.
Chairman of the panel and Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, urged hospital staff to adhere strictly to professional ethics in the discharge of their duties. Similarly, the Health Commissioner, Ismaila Yakubu Augie, called for greater cooperation and synergy among hospital personnel to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of the state.
The committee is expected to continue its work, with more witnesses scheduled to appear in the coming sessions.
