The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has refuted reports circulating in the media and online platforms claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has removed Senator George Akume, from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In an official statement released on Monday, the OSGF described the claims as “false, misleading, and entirely without basis in fact.”
“The purported removal of the SGF is a fabrication and a figment of the imagination of mischief-makers who aim to disinform and mislead the public,” the statement reads.
The Office emphasized that President Tinubu maintains unwavering confidence in Senator Akume’s ability to effectively implement the policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration.
“Mr. President has no intention whatsoever of removing the SGF. He reposes full confidence in his leadership and capacity to carry out the statutory obligations of his office,” the statement added.
The OSGF urged the public, media outlets, and digital platforms to disregard the rumour, and cautioned against the spread of unverified or intentionally false information that could undermine public trust and damage institutional integrity.
“We encourage all Nigerians to verify information before disseminating it, as false narratives threaten not just the individuals involved, but the very fabric of governance and public confidence,” the statement urged.
Furthermore, the OSGF aligned itself with a previous press release issued by Chief Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, reaffirming that Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
