The management of Northwest University Kano has responded to a complaint circulating on social media regarding difficulty accessing lecture halls on the upper floors of its City Campus in Kano.
The complaint was raised by a 300-level student of the Faculty of Computing, Aminu Ja’afar Muhammad, popularly known as Alamein, who highlighted the challenges faced in reaching lecture venues located on higher floors of the campus building at Gidan Ado Bayero, Kofar Nassarawa.
In a statement issued on March 16, the university acknowledged the concerns raised, noting that the difficulty arose from the temporary non-functionality of the elevators in the building. The management particularly recognised the impact of the situation on students with special needs.
The institution also commended students who have shown solidarity by assisting their colleague during the period of the challenge.
According to the statement, the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has already commenced the installation and rehabilitation of elevators at the City Campus.
The university disclosed that installation of one of the lifts has reached about 80 percent completion and is expected to become operational soon, while work on another lift is also ongoing.
The management therefore called on students, staff, and members of the public to remain calm and patient as efforts continue to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the welfare, inclusiveness, and academic success of all students, including those with special needs, while assuring that steps are being taken to make the university environment more accessible and conducive for learning.
