The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have renewed their commitment to intensifying joint efforts to combat drug trafficking along Nigeria’s maritime corridor.
The renewed partnership followed a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Commander of the NDLEA Tincan Strategic Command, Solomon Omotosho, to the KLT Command in Lagos.
In a statement issued Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Ogagbor, the visit highlighted the shared resolve of both agencies to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in tackling narcotics trafficking.
Receiving the delegation, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Bolaji Adigun, described the engagement as strategic and timely, noting that port environments remain critical frontlines in the fight against illicit drug movements.
He stressed that improved intelligence sharing, coordinated cargo profiling, and joint examination procedures are essential in dismantling drug trafficking networks and enhancing operational efficiency.
“Port environments remain critical frontlines in the fight against illicit drug movements,” Adigun said, adding that stronger collaboration would significantly improve enforcement outcomes.
In his remarks, Omotosho said the visit was aimed at fostering a stronger working relationship with the KLT Command and reinforcing operational synergy between both agencies.
He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s readiness to collaborate closely with the NCS to strengthen national security and safeguard Nigeria’s maritime domain from illicit activities.
Both agencies reiterated their commitment to maintaining a united front, deepening operational coordination, and intensifying efforts to secure the nation’s ports against drug trafficking and related crimes.
