President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the tenure of Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years.
Prof. Anunobi, who was first appointed on September 2, 2021, will continue to lead the institution as it advances ongoing reforms aimed at modernising library services across the country.
Since assuming office, she has overseen several key initiatives designed to reposition the National Library as a technology-driven knowledge hub. These include the development and operationalisation of the National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, the Index and Abstract to Nigerian Newspapers, and the National Virtual Library of Nigeria.
Her tenure has also been marked by efforts to accelerate the long-awaited completion of the National Library Headquarters project in Abuja. In addition, she initiated plans to migrate heritage collections from 34 state branches to the new headquarters.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the renewal is expected to ensure continuity in the implementation of ongoing reforms.
The presidency also expressed confidence that Anunobi will oversee the completion of the National Library Headquarters and drive the execution of the institution’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
