The Kano State Police Command has arrested 248 suspects for various offences, including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and violent disturbances, within one month of intensified security operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.
CP Bakori explained that the Command also rescued three kidnapped victims during the period under review.
He said the arrests, recorded between April 20 and May 20, 2026, were achieved through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies.
According to him, the suspects include 18 armed robbery suspects, five suspected kidnappers, 32 suspected drug dealers, and 149 individuals linked to violent public disturbances.
The Police Commissioner further revealed that security operatives recovered a significant cache of weapons and illicit substances, including firearms, cutlasses, knives, axes, bows and arrows, and large quantities of suspected cannabis and other hard drugs.
Other items recovered include suspected stolen vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and SIM cards.
CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori noted that although the state remains relatively peaceful, security concerns were recorded in parts of the metropolis, including Fagge, IBB Road, and Hotoro, as well as communities along the Kano-Katsina border.
He said the development prompted intensified security operations, increased deployment of personnel, and joint task force actions aimed at restoring order and strengthening public safety.
The Police Commissioner commended the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for its continued support to security agencies.
He also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security operatives, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring Kano remains safe for all residents.
