The Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced two women to three months’ imprisonment each for forgery and presenting forged documents.
The convicts, Olayiwola Bola Oke and Adijat Adewunmi Adeyinka, were sentenced by Justices Daniel Osiagor and D.I. Dipeolu respectively after pleading guilty to separate one-count charges filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the EFCC, Olayiwola forged three Certificates of Occupancy and falsely presented herself as different individuals in a bid to defraud, while Adeyinka presented a forged Certificate of Occupancy bearing a false identity in an attempt to stand as surety for the bail of a suspect under investigation by the Commission.
During the proceedings, prosecution counsel, H.U. Kofarnaisa, reviewed the facts of the cases and tendered the defendants’ statements alongside the forged documents, which were admitted as exhibits.
The prosecution subsequently urged the court to convict and sentence the defendants based on their guilty pleas.
In separate judgments, Justice Daniel Osiagor convicted Olayiwola Bola Oke and sentenced her to three months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
Justice D.I. Dipeolu also convicted Adijat Adewunmi Adeyinka and sentenced her to three months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
