The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has conducted an in-house emergency evacuation drill for staff at its headquarters in Abuja to strengthen workplace safety and improve emergency preparedness.
The exercise, coordinated by the Agency’s Search and Rescue Department, involved directors, heads of units, staff, service providers and visitors, who participated in a simulated evacuation and assembled at a designated muster point.
As part of the exercise, officials of the Federal Fire Service conducted practical sessions on fire safety, emergency evacuation procedures and basic first aid to equip participants with essential life-saving skills and appropriate emergency response measures.
Representing the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Special Assistant to the Director-General, Hajiya Rakiya Bello Umar, commended members of staff for their commitment and dedication, particularly during emergency response operations across the country.
She urged them to maintain professionalism while prioritising personal safety and strict adherence to established emergency procedures.
Also speaking, the Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Bature Usman, stressed the importance of regular emergency drills in building a safety-conscious workforce.
He said continuous practical exercises and awareness programmes would enhance the capacity of personnel to respond promptly, safely and effectively during emergencies.
The evacuation drill forms part of NEMA’s efforts to promote a culture of safety, preparedness and resilience while strengthening the operational readiness of its personnel.
