Nigeria and Zambia have expressed readiness to deepen bilateral relations through expanded cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, mining, education and other key sectors.
This was made known when Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Zambia, Ambassador Efe A. Clark-Omeru, presented her Letters of Credence to Zambia’s President, Hakainde Hichilema, in Lusaka.

The ceremony, held on September 18, 2026, provided an opportunity for the Nigerian envoy to convey the warm fraternal greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to President Hichilema and the people of Zambia.
Ambassador Clark-Omeru also congratulated President Hichilema on his re-election for a second term in Zambia’s August 2026 general elections.
She highlighted the longstanding relations between Nigeria and Zambia, anchored on shared interests, mutual respect, Pan-African solidarity and a common history of supporting the struggle against colonialism and apartheid in Southern Africa.
The High Commissioner said Nigeria was prepared to further strengthen bilateral cooperation through existing agreements and new partnerships.

She identified agriculture, mining and solid minerals, trade and investment, education, tourism, the creative economy, science and technology as areas with potential for deeper collaboration.
Ambassador Clark-Omeru also expressed Nigeria’s readiness to explore the deployment of volunteers to Zambia under the Technical Aid Corps Scheme.
She said stronger cooperation in these areas would provide opportunities for both countries to advance their shared interests and promote mutually beneficial partnerships.
The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Nigeria High Commission in Lusaka, attended by leaders of the Nigerian community and representatives of Nigerian businesses operating in Zambia.
At the reception, Ambassador Clark-Omeru pledged the Mission’s continued attention to the welfare of Nigerians living and doing business in Zambia.

She also said the High Commission would work with the Nigerian community and businesses to promote Nigeria’s economic interests, values and image in Zambia.
The engagement highlights Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its diplomatic and economic relations with Zambia through expanded cooperation and people-to-people ties.
