A student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, MAAUN, Kano, Abdulkadir Basri, is set to attempt a 120-hour continuous sewing marathon in a bid to set a Guinness World Record.
The sewing marathon, also known as a Sew-a-Thon, is scheduled to commence on October 5, 2026, at the Ibrahim Usman Yakasai Sports Complex of the university in Kano.

Basri plans to operate a sewing machine continuously for 120 hours, equivalent to five days and nights, in an endurance challenge aimed at showcasing his technical skills and creativity.
The attempt is expected to test the student’s physical and mental endurance while highlighting youth innovation and Nigeria’s growing creative and fashion industry.
The university community, student organisations and supporters are expected to provide logistical and moral support throughout the duration of the challenge.
The organisers are also mobilising members of the public and supporters through social media to create awareness and encourage participation in the event.

The initiative is expected to draw attention to the potential of young Nigerians in fashion, design and other creative industries.
The Guinness World Records, established in 1955, documents and verifies record-breaking achievements across different fields globally.
If successful and officially verified, the attempt could place the MAAUN student among record holders in the category of longest continuous machine sewing marathon.
The organisers say preparations are underway to ensure that the attempt meets the relevant requirements and procedures for a Guinness World Records submission.

The five-day challenge is expected to attract members of the university community and other supporters to the venue as Basri seeks to complete the demanding sewing marathon.
