A team from the C19 RSSH Kano State Advocacy group on AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (ATM), implemented under the community component by ACOMIN, has paid an advocacy visit to the Kano State Primary Healthcare management board SPHCMB.
The visit aimed at advocating for the inclusion of Fatima Shehu Mai Mota Primary Health Centre, Nassarawa Hotoro South, and Limawa PHC, Kumbotso into the state’s Drug Revolving Fund (DRF).
Kano Enhances Healthcare Service Delivery With Revised DRF
The delegation included the C19 RSSH state Programs Officer, Huzaifa Ibrahim, ACOMIN State Chair, Dr. Nura Haladu, TB Network State Chair, Sunusi Hashim, and NEPWHAN State Chair, Nuhu Tela.
In his remarks, Dr. Haladu explained that the C19 RSSH project is designed to strengthen the capacity of facility-based and community networks, frontline staff, and volunteers to achieve better health outcomes.
He noted that the ATM coalition has been actively engaging health facilities on HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria while escalating unresolved challenges to relevant authorities.
He disclosed that during a recent facility assessments, the teams discovered that the two PHCs have not been enrolled in the DRF, despite their strategic importance to their host communities.
He also identified data gaps as one of the challenges facing some health centres, adding that monthly coordination meetings are held with stakeholders to track progress and address issues.
Responding,the DRF focal person Kano SPHCMB Pharmacist Bello Dandago stated that the agency has proposed an expansion of DRF coverage in the 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP).
He assured that if approved, Fatima Shehu Mai Mota PHC and Limawa PHC will be among the facilities captured, allowing their communities to benefit.
Kano State Government Pledges to Sustain Drugs Revolving Fund
He revealed that 846 out of 1,300 health facilities in Kano are currently covered under the DRF, stressing that the agency is working to bridge the gap.
Dandago emphasized that the administration of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized healthcare delivery through policies and programs designed to strengthen the sector.
The Drug Revolving fund (DRF) is a concept designed to promote access, ensure availability, and guarantee the affordability of essential medicines.
It works by creating a self-sustaining cycle in which funds generated from the sale of drugs are reinvested to replenish stock, thereby ensuring continuous supply.
