The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has been honoured with an award in recognition of its outstanding contributions to youth and women empowerment in Nigeria.
The award was presented during the Northeast Youth Idea Summit held on June 27, 2026, which brought together young innovators, development practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders from across the Northeast region.
According to the organisers, the recognition acknowledges CITAD’s sustained commitment to implementing programmes that empower young people and women through skills development, innovation, and inclusive participation.
Receiving the award on behalf of CITAD’s Executive Director, Y.Z. Ya’u, the organisation’s Campaign and Communications Officer, Ali Sabo, expressed appreciation to the organisers for the honour.
In his remarks, Ya’u described the award as a reflection of the collective efforts of the young people, women, partners, and communities who have actively participated in and supported CITAD’s initiatives over the years.
He reaffirmed the organisation’s belief that empowering young people remains central to sustainable development, noting that investments in youth and women help build stronger, more resilient, and inclusive communities.
“CITAD believes that when young people and women have access to skills, opportunities, and platforms, they can contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities,” he said.
Ya’u highlighted the organisation’s interventions in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership development, digital rights, and civic engagement, adding that CITAD has also championed initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in technology, education, governance, and economic activities.
While thanking the organisers for the recognition, he reiterated CITAD’s commitment to expanding opportunities for young people and women, particularly those in underserved communities.
“We see this award as both a recognition of previous efforts and a reminder of the work that remains to be done. CITAD will continue to work with partners and communities to support young people and women and expand access to opportunities that can improve their lives and livelihoods,” Ya’u stated.
