A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano on Thursday ordered the remand of three men over the alleged murder of a 35-year-old housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.
The defendants are Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.

They are facing an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, criminal trespass, robbery, culpable homicide, rape, mischief by fire, possession of dangerous weapons, and inflicting injuries.
The Prosecutor and Attorney General of Kano State, Mr Abdulkarim Maude, SAN, told the court that the alleged offences were committed on January 17, 2026, at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters.
According to the prosecution, Auwalu, who is a nephew to the deceased, allegedly conspired with the other defendants to unlawfully enter the victim’s residence, where the housewife and her six children were reportedly killed.

Maude further informed the court that the defendants were also alleged to have carried out similar attacks in November 2025 at Tudun Yola Quarters, where two housewives were reportedly robbed, killed, and their houses set ablaze.
The offences, he said, contravene Sections 97, 221, 283, 298, 319, 336, and 348 of the Penal Code.
In a related development, the court also ordered the remand of Umar Ali, who was accused of receiving body parts allegedly taken from a nine-year-old girl by the first defendant.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Defence counsel, A. S. Tunkuye, filed an application under Section 36(5)(c) of the Constitution, requesting that the Attorney General be directed to provide access to the case diary and relevant records to enable the defence prepare adequately.
The Chief Magistrate, Auwal Yusuf-Suleiman, ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional facility and directed the prosecution to make all necessary facilities available to the defence.
The case was adjourned to March 11, 2026, for further mention.
