The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has called on governments, institutions, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to empower women and ensure equal treatment and respect for them across all sectors of society.
The call was made in a statement issued to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD), signed by the Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kano State Chapter, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, and the Secretary, Maryam Muhammad Yakasai.

Kabara said this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” underscores the importance of investing in women as a pathway to sustainable development and social progress.
According to her, empowering women through education, skills acquisition, economic opportunities, and inclusion in leadership will not only improve the lives of women but also strengthen families, communities, and the nation at large.
She urged governments at all levels, private organisations, and community leaders to create enabling environments where women are respected, valued, and given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The NAWOJ chairperson also stressed the need for continuous advocacy for the rights, dignity, and welfare of women.
She encouraged women to remain resilient, hardworking, and supportive of one another in the pursuit of progress and equality.

Kabara further reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting responsible journalism that highlights issues affecting women and advocates policies aimed at advancing gender equality and development in Kano State and across Nigeria.
