As the world marks International Women’s Day 2026, the Adolescent Health Information Projects (AHIP) has joined the global community in celebrating the invaluable contributions of women across all spheres of life.
In a statement to commemorate the occasion, the Executive Director of AHIP, Dr. Mairo V. Bello, emphasized the need to empower women to become hardworking, dedicated, and resilient in the face of challenges.

According to her, the 2026 theme, “Give To Gain,” highlights the strength and determination of women while encouraging them to remain focused on building productive and meaningful lives.
Dr. Bello also cautioned women and girls against falling victim to illegal migration and human trafficking, noting that such risks often threaten their safety and future opportunities.
She stated that AHIP remains committed to supporting women to thrive safely, independently, and with purpose through its various empowerment and health-focused initiatives.
“Women have always been the backbone of families, communities, and societies. At AHIP, we recognize that empowering women is essential not only for their personal growth but also for the broader development of communities,” she said.
The Executive Director further explained that AHIP’s programmes are designed to equip women with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to become self-reliant and effective agents of change in society.
“We believe that every woman possesses the potential for greatness, and with perseverance, coupled with opportunities and support, she can achieve remarkable success,” she added.

She noted that the organisation’s ongoing initiatives aim to create platforms that enable women to develop their talents, take charge of their health, and pursue sustainable livelihoods.
“By investing in women, we are investing in stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities,” she said.
Dr. Bello therefore called on stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organisations, and the private sector, to strengthen support for women’s empowerment.
She stressed that collective action is necessary to ensure that women not only survive but thrive, embodying dedication, resilience, and excellence in all aspects of life.
