The Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME) has intensified its supervision of urban renewal projects across the Kano metropolis, conducting thorough inspections of multi-billion naira infrastructure works to ensure transparency, accountability, and adherence to project standards.
The monitoring exercise, involved physical assessments of major road and civil infrastructure projects under the state government’s urban renewal programme.
The initiative aims to modernize city infrastructure through road rehabilitation, transportation network expansion, and upgrades to public learning facilities.
Leading the inspection Commissioner Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, accompanied by engineers, media, and technical experts from the ministry.
The team visited key project sites to assess progress, compliance with contractual obligations, and the quality of work delivered by contractors.
“As a ministry responsible for monitoring procurement and project implementation, we will continue regular inspections to ensure transparency and value for money in all government projects,” Comrade Sumaila said. He emphasized that strict supervision is vital for projects involving significant public funds.
The inspection covered several major roads, including Lamido Crescent Road, Sulaiman Crescent Road, Sokoto Road, Iyaka Road, Guda Abdullahi Road, Justice Dahiru Mustapha Road, IBB Road, Tudun Yola to Dansudu Western Bypass Road, and the Dan Agundi Interchange Flyover.
The works focus on improving traffic flow, accessibility, and overall urban mobility.
The team also evaluated ongoing renovations at public schools, including Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Giginyu, Government Girls Arabic Secondary School (GGASS) Giginyu, Giginyu Special Primary School, Day Science College, and Government Technical College (GTC) Kano.
These projects aim to enhance classroom conditions and create a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the inspection exercise, highlighting that consistent oversight is essential to prevent delays, eliminate substandard work, and ensure efficient use of public resources.
The Kano Urban Renewal Programme remains a flagship initiative of the state government, designed to transform infrastructure, improve mobility, and enhance overall urban development across the metropolis.
