Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari has emerged as one of the fifteen flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress in Katsina State followingi the just-concluded primary elections for the 2027 House of Representatives polls.
While the state chapter of the party adopted a consensus arrangement for the selection of most candidates, direct primaries were conducted in constituencies where consensus could not be reached.
In the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency, where party stakeholders failed to agree on a consensus candidate, Yusuf Buhari and Auwal Lawal Daura contested in a keenly fought primary election.
Yusuf Buhari emerged victorious with 15,570 votes, defeating Auwal Lawal Daura, who polled 480 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, Auwal Lawal described the exercise as flawed, alleging several irregularities, including over-counting, repeated counting, and failure to properly screen voters’ membership cards.
He called on the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to revisit the process in order to restore the confidence of party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Yusuf Buhari dismissed the allegations and pledged to work with party stakeholders and members to strengthen unity and mobilize support for the party.
In a related development, Jamila Abdu Mani, the only female among the fifteen aspirants, emerged winner of the primary election for the Bindawa/Mani Federal Constituency after polling 24,989 votes to defeat Ahmed Saleh, who secured 1,256 votes.

Meanwhile, in the Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency, Hamza Sule Faskari was adopted as the consensus candidate to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the affirmation rally in Kankara, Chairman of the consensus committee, Alhaji Tasiu Sabuwa, said the decision followed consultations with stakeholders from the 31 wards across the three local government areas of the constituency.
According to him, factors considered included the candidate’s popularity, acceptance among voters, loyalty to the party, and track record in politics and public service.
He added that Hamza Sule Faskari possesses the qualities required to effectively represent the constituency and strengthen the party’s support base.
Similarly, APC stakeholders in the Charanchi/Rimi/Batagarawa Federal Constituency affirmed Usman Banye as consensus candidate, while Salisu Majigiri was affirmed for the Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency.
However, fallout from the APC primaries has led to the defection of two serving federal lawmakers to opposition parties after securing tickets to contest for another term in the House of Representatives.
Shehu Tafoki, representing Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency, defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, while Sani Lawal, representing Baure/Zango Federal Constituency, also left the APC to join another political party yet to be officially disclosed.
