Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has joined students in Birnin Kebbi to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, pledging continued commitment to education and improved welfare for teachers in the state.
Hosting the students at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Lodge, the Governor urged them to be disciplined, embrace a reading culture, and remain good ambassadors of Kebbi and Nigeria.
Describing the day as historic, Governor Idris said the anniversary called for sober reflection on the struggles of the nation’s founding fathers and the journey so far. He expressed delight in celebrating with students, whom he described as the future leaders of both the state and the country.
Reaffirming that education remains free in Kebbi, the Governor encouraged students to study hard and prepare themselves for leadership roles.
On teachers’ welfare, Governor Idris stressed that no administration in recent times has done more in the past two years than his, assuring that all outstanding issues would be addressed. He further disclosed that his government is working on more robust welfare packages for teachers, while ensuring the prompt payment of salaries, gratuities, and other entitlements.
The celebration also featured colorful cultural performances by students, showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Halima Bande, described the Governor’s presence as a source of encouragement and joy for both teachers and students
