The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has organised a one-day sensitisation workshop in Kano aimed at promoting value addition, local processing, and export development in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the opening session,Suleman Halilu, Chairman of the occasion, stated that the workshop was designed to connect individuals and businesses interested in raw material development and export with relevant government agencies that can guide them through the production, processing, and export procedures.
“The benefit of this workshop is to provide participants with practical knowledge on how to add value to raw materials, explore export opportunities, and enhance Nigeria’s economic growth,”
Also speaking, Khalid Mustapha, Coordinator of the Kano State Raw Materials Research and Development Council, stated that the workshop aimed to sensitise the public on three key areas of industrial growth manufacturing, value addition, and policy implementation.
He explained that the Council recently introduced a policy mandating **30 per cent local raw material value addition for export**, describing it as a major step toward sustainable industrialisation.
“This policy, when fully implemented, will help the nation optimise its resources, strengthen local industries, and improve export competitiveness,” Mustapha said.
In his remarks, Dr. Balary Akimiahe, Director of National Competitiveness Strategy and Special Projects at the RMRDC headquarters in Abuja, said the sensitisation aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to create jobs, expand businesses, and boost economic growth.
He added that the initiative will benefit small, medium, and large-scale enterprises, encouraging them to take advantage of new tax incentives expected to take effect from January 2026.
“We are engaging stakeholders nationwide to ensure that entrepreneurs understand and utilize these opportunities to strengthen their operations and grow the economy,” Dr. Akimiahe noted.
