The Nigeria Police Academy is set to commence postgraduate degree programmes following a resource verification exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission.
The verification visit, held at the academy in Wudil, was led by Maxwell Gidado alongside 17 other officials from the commission.
Speaking during the exercise, the 24th Commandant of the academy, Patrick A. Atayero, described the planned postgraduate programme as a major step toward strengthening police education and professional development.
According to him, the initiative goes beyond introducing additional academic courses and is aimed at equipping officers with advanced knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and leadership skills required to address modern policing and security challenges.
AIG Atayero noted that the development aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, whose leadership has prioritized professionalism, training, and continuous learning within the Nigeria Police Force.
He added that both the academy and the NUC verification team were optimistic about maintaining high academic standards for the proposed postgraduate programmes to ensure credibility and relevance to national security and public service needs.
The Commandant further stated that the move would position the Nigeria Police Academy not only as a centre for tactical and professional police training, but also as a hub for advanced research and learning in policing and security studies.
