The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, has officially launched its Drone/Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Portal in a major step toward strengthening drone regulation, improving operational safety, and accelerating the growth of Nigeria’s drone industry.
The portal was unveiled during the 6th Africa International Drone Technology Conference and Exhibition, Dronetecx 2026, held in Lagos on May 13, 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, said the initiative became necessary to monitor the increasing use of drones across the country and ensure proper regulation of operators.
According to him, the portal is designed to curb the proliferation of drones, manage the rapid expansion of recreational drone usage, and provide a comprehensive roadmap for the development of the sector. He added that it would also define the responsibilities of stakeholders and position Nigeria as a leading player in drone technology and innovation.
Capt. Najomo commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for approving the commencement of the policy framework and roadmap development process, which has already been referenced in the current ICAO Nigeria Civil Aviation Master Plan.
He also praised the conference convener, Fortune Idu, alongside other stakeholders, for supporting the development of a policy framework that aligns with the existing Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs Part 21).
The DGCA noted that the digital platform would help Nigeria take its rightful position in the development and safe utilisation of drone and automation technologies within the aviation industry.
In a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mahmud Adam Kambari, represented by Mrs. Rabiat Tukur Ali, Director of Air Safety Administration, said the policy framework would promote the advancement of UAS technology and provide easier access for users across the country.
