The Kano State Task Force Committee on the Mobilisation of Voter Registration has intensified efforts to boost voter enrolment across the state ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The committee reached the decision during a strategic meeting held on June 11, 2026, at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in Kano.
The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, and attended by members of the committee as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The gathering reviewed the progress of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and assessed achievements recorded so far under the third and final phase of the nationwide registration exercise.
Participants at the meeting expressed satisfaction with the level of public response to the exercise, noting that Kano State currently ranks among the leading states in the country in terms of voter registration figures, particularly in the category of physical registration.
According to the committee, the achievement reflects the effectiveness of sustained public awareness campaigns and coordinated mobilisation efforts carried out across communities, educational institutions and other strategic locations within the state.
To consolidate the gains recorded so far, the committee, in collaboration with INEC, finalized plans for a large-scale voter registration mobilisation campaign aimed at encouraging more eligible residents to register before the expiration of the exercise.
The campaign is expected to target communities across Kano’s three senatorial districts, with special emphasis on youths, students and first-time voters who have attained the age of 18.
The mobilisation exercise is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will run daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in designated centres across Kano Central, Kano North and Kano South Senatorial Districts, including key locations in Wudil and Bichi.
Speaking during the meeting, committee members stressed the importance of ensuring that all eligible residents are captured in the voter register to enable them participate actively in the democratic process.
They noted that increasing voter registration remains critical to strengthening democratic governance and promoting greater civic engagement among citizens.
The committee further emphasized that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Kano State Government to deepen democratic participation and ensure that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all stakeholders involved in the registration exercise to guarantee a smooth, transparent and inclusive process.
The government also pledged to continue working closely with INEC and community leaders to enhance voter awareness and facilitate easy access to registration centres across the state.
Eligible residents, particularly students and young people who recently attained voting age, were urged to take advantage of the ongoing exercise and register as voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement reiterated that active participation in the registration process is essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring that citizens have a voice in determining the future leadership and development of the country.
