The Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a budget of N7.7 billion for the execution of multiple infrastructure projects across the state.

This landmark decision was finalized during the 21st State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by the governor.

The projects aim to address critical development needs in transportation, electrification, flood control, and public facilities.

Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, disclosed that N1.88 billion has been allocated for the construction of Tudun Yola Road, connecting Gwarzo Road to Dansudu Bypass in Ungogo Local Government Area.

The project aims to enhance connectivity and ease transportation in the region.

Similarly, N1.83 billion has been earmarked for the expansion of Zaria Road, stretching from Silver Jubilee to the Dantata and Sawoe axis, which will significantly reduce traffic congestion.

In addition, the council approved N1 billion for the underground electrification of Kwankwasiyya City, a project initiated by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso but abandoned for eight years.

This initiative aims to revitalize the area and improve its infrastructure.

Moreover, N599.64 million was allocated for the installation of solar-powered streetlights along a five-kilometre dualized road in Gezawa Local Government Area, improving road safety and security.

Road construction and rehabilitation also featured prominently in the approved projects.

The council allocated N497.08 million for the Rijiyar Lemon road network in Fagge Local Government Area and N340.95 million for the rehabilitation of the Eastern Bypass to Tsamiya Babba and Larabar Abasawa.

These projects aim to improve road infrastructure and facilitate smoother transportation for residents.

Flood control and erosion management were also prioritized, with N205.98 million approved for the construction of three reinforced concrete box culverts along Kwanar Durban to Konau to Kure Road in Kibiya Local Government Area.

Additionally, N193.11 million was allocated for reconstructing two multi-cell box culverts in Shanono Local Government Area to address flooding issues.

Public facility maintenance and development received significant attention as well. N153.18 million was approved for renovating and constructing the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) office.

Furthermore, N144.01 million was allocated for maintenance work on the critical Airport Road. These projects aim to improve public service delivery and infrastructure sustainability.

Healthcare and other abandoned public projects were also addressed, with N118.76 million allocated for completing an abandoned building at Gidan Danhausa and renovating Bamalli Nuhu Hospital in Kofar Nassarawa.

Another N93.51 million was approved as counterpart funding for a hypertension and diabetes screening program targeting ten individuals.

Fuel supply for water resource management was also a priority, with N304 million approved for the November 2024 provision of diesel and petrol.

This measure will ensure the continued operation of water supply facilities in the state, benefiting thousands of residents.

Governor Yusuf reassured residents that his administration remains committed to reviving abandoned projects and implementing new ones to foster sustainable development.

He highlighted the significance of these projects in transforming the state’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for all citizens.

Expressing gratitude to Kano State residents for their unwavering support, Governor Yusuf emphasized that these developmental efforts are designed to address long-standing challenges while positioning the state for greater progress.

His administration’s focus on infrastructure underscores its dedication to delivering impactful and lasting change.
