Kano State athletes continue to shine at the ongoing 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival currently taking place in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The state contingent, led by the Acting Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Umar Fagge, is working tirelessly to ensure Kano finishes the festival with a strong medal haul.
Kano Wins Medals at 22nd National Sports Festival
In taekwondo, Ibrahim Muktar secured a bronze medal in the 78kg category, while Musa Muhammad claimed silver in the 54kg event. Muhammad Shehu Baffa and Lawan Muhammad Sulaiman also added to the medal tally with bronze medals in the 63kg and 68kg categories, respectively.
However, in football, the Kano State team was eliminated on disciplinary grounds, as three teams finished with identical win records and goal tallies in the preliminary round. The elimination was based on the fair play rule due to caution card counts.
Speaking to newsmen, Ibrahim Umar Fagge expressed satisfaction with the athletes’ performance so far and encouraged them to redouble their efforts in the remaining events. He affirmed the Commission’s commitment to the athletes’ welfare to keep them motivated throughout the festival.

As at the time of filing these report, Kano state has secured a total of 15 medals: one gold, five silver, and nine bronze.
