The Kano State Government, KNSG, has intensified efforts toward rehabilitating female drug addicts by transforming the Gaya Female Reformatory Institute, formerly an orphanage, into a fully functional reformatory and rehabilitation facility.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Disabled, Hajiya Amia Abdullahi Sani, led a high-level delegation to the facility in Gaya to assess renovation needs and mobilize inter-ministerial support for the project.

The delegation included the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marwan Ahmad Badawi, his technical team, directors, and aides from the Ministry of Women Affairs.
During the visit, Commissioner Sani briefed her counterpart in the Ministry of Works on the scope of work required to upgrade the center, including structural renovations and expansions to accommodate and rehabilitate female drug addicts in a safe and supportive environment.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of works Eng. Marwan Badawi assured that the Ministry of Works would collaborate closely with the Ministry of Women Affairs to provide the necessary technical and infrastructural support.
“We will ensure this facility meets the standards needed to effectively support the rehabilitation of our women battling drug addiction,”
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gaya, where they formally informed him of the state government’s rehabilitation plan.
