In a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare and industrial sectors, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), EMS Brazil, and Oaks Medical Limited.
The signing ceremony, presided over by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, marks a significant step in translating high-level diplomatic engagements into operational partnerships.
The MoU follows discussions between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during President Tinubu’s recent visit to Brazil. Both leaders emphasized the need to expand collaboration in pharmaceutical development, vaccine production, and broader industrial growth.
The partnership is expected to enhance Nigeria’s local production of essential medicines and vaccines, reduce reliance on imports, and strengthen national health security.
As part of the agreement, the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) will serve as the operational framework to address bottlenecks in the healthcare value chain.
The initiative focuses on technology transfer, capacity building, and scaling up local manufacturing to establish Nigeria as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production. By integrating public and private sector stakeholders, the program aims to ensure sustainable industrial growth while delivering tangible benefits to Nigerian citizens.
The collaboration also seeks to foster long-term technical and industrial linkages between Nigeria and Brazil, promoting knowledge sharing, skills development, and investment in local infrastructure.
Through the PVAC platform, the government aims to accelerate vaccine and pharmaceutical self-reliance, create new economic opportunities, boost employment, and reinforce Nigeria’s global standing in healthcare and industrial innovation.
