The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the drowning of two persons in separate well incidents in Madobi and Ghari Local Government Areas of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the agency, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed this to journalists in Kano.
According to him, the first incident occurred in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Aream saying that the Control Room received a distress call from the Deputy Director of the Fire Service, Rabiu Garba Abdu, reporting that a child had fallen into a well.
He pointed out that, rescue teams from the agency’s headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a two-year-old boy, Sa’idu Ahmad, who had fallen into the well. The child was successfully rescued unconscious but was later confirmed dead.
The deceased was handed over to the police officer in charge, Umar Shehu Sani, of the Madobi Police Division.
The second incident occurred at Karofawa Yan Kifi village in Ghari Local Government Area. Firefighters from the Ghari Fire Station promptly responded to the distress call.
On arrival, they found a 28-year-old man, Suleiman Sani, who had also fallen into a well. He was rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead by his parents. His body was subsequently handed over to the village head of Karofawa, Alhaji Musa Aliyu.
The cause of both incidents is currently under investigation.
The Kano State Fire Service extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and advised residents to ensure that wells are properly covered to prevent similar tragedies.
