The Acting Customs Area Controller (CAC), Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Usman Adamu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) commitment to trade facilitation and inter-agency collaboration during a working visit to the Kano Free Trade Zone.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe.
According to the statement, the visit formed part of the Acting Area Controller’s familiarisation tour across the Command’s area of responsibility.
Speaking during the visit, DC Adamu assured stakeholders that the Kano/Jigawa Area Command would continue to work closely with operators and relevant agencies to ensure seamless operations within the Free Trade Zone.
“We are committed to facilitating legitimate trade while strengthening compliance and safeguarding national security. Our procedures are being reviewed within existing legal frameworks to improve efficiency and support investors operating in this Zone, in line with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ policy direction of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation,”
In his remarks, the Director of the Kano Free Trade Zone KFTZ Bassey Richard, described Kano as a long-standing commercial hub and highlighted the strategic importance of the Zone to regional economic development.
“Kano has always been a centre of commerce, and the Free Trade Zone plays a vital role in attracting investment and driving economic activities in this region. We appreciate the cordial and professional relationship with the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, and we believe sustained collaboration between NEPZA and the Nigeria Customs Service is critical to orderly operations and continued growth”
During the visit, the Acting CAC toured several enterprises operating within the Free Trade Zone, where he commended the level of cooperation from operators and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to providing support in line with extant regulations.
