Governor Malam Umar Namadi has declared that Jigawa State Government’s sustained investment in the education sector is producing measurable and positive outcomes, particularly in the area of basic education.
The governor made the assertion while presiding over a Basic Education Stakeholders’ Roundtable Meeting held at the Government House, Dutse.
The meeting was convened to review progress, challenges, and emerging opportunities within the basic education sub-sector.
The roundtable brought together officials from the Ministry of Education and its agencies, development partners, non-governmental organisations, and other key stakeholders.
It was coordinated by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the Office of the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education.
During the session, participants presented reports detailing their respective interventions, achievements, and contributions toward improving access, quality, and learning outcomes in Jigawa State.
Governor Namadi expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, noting that the presentations clearly demonstrated the tangible impact of government investment and development partner support in the sector.
“What we have seen today is that the investment we are making in education is truly producing results. The contributions of donor agencies, alongside government efforts, are becoming very clear and evident in improving educational outcomes across the state,”
He commended development partners for their sustained commitment to enhancing learning outcomes and assured them of the state government’s continued collaboration and support.
“I want to assure you that as a government, we will continue to work with you and create a conducive environment for you to operate effectively,”
Governor Namadi further pledged that the government would carefully review all recommendations and contributions made during the meeting, with a view to incorporating viable suggestions into the state’s education planning and policy framework.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, said the meeting brought together all departments and institutions involved in education data management and service delivery.
He emphasized that tackling challenges in the education sector requires collective action, stressing that stakeholders share a common goal of ensuring that every Jigawa child enrolls in school, remains in school, transitions successfully across levels, and completes their education.
Dr. Danzomo revealed that recent assessments indicate significant improvements in access to education, pupil retention, transition rates, and completion rates. He also highlighted progress in teacher recruitment, deployment, training, attendance, and overall performance.
He attributed the achievements to the political will of Governor Namadi, the enabling environment created by his administration, and the inclusive approach that allows stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to educational development.
The stakeholders’ meeting forms part of the governor’s broader efforts to revitalize and reposition the education sector as a foundation for sustainable human capital development in Jigawa State.
Development partners and organisations represented at the meeting included PLANE, AGILE, UNICEF, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Save the Children, among others.
