President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, as Minister of State for Finance, praising his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to public service.
Speaking at the brief ceremony at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu described the appointment as a vote of confidence in Oyedele and lauded his efforts in coordinating Nigeria’s tax reform initiatives.
The President highlighted Oyedele’s deep knowledge of tax policy, which has been pivotal in shaping reforms aimed at simplifying the tax system, expanding the revenue base, and creating a business-friendly environment.
“We are very proud of your knowledge, your simplicity, ambition, and excellence. Thank you for accepting to serve your country, especially in reforming a tax policy that was outdated and fundamentally against progressive thinking,” President Tinubu said. He also acknowledged Oyedele’s wife, commending her support during long working hours and demanding responsibilities.
Oyedele, hailing from Ikaram, Akoko, Ondo State, is an accomplished economist, accountant, and public policy expert. He holds an HND in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology, a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, and has completed executive education programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He spent 22 years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, joining in 2001 and rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. Oyedele is also a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
President Tinubu described the role as challenging yet vital for Nigeria’s economic stability, expressing confidence that Oyedele’s expertise and determination will help drive sustainable fiscal policies and growth.
