The Society for Family Health (SFH), Nigeria, has urged the Nasarawa State Government to provide the necessary support for the take-off of the State Private Health Institution Regulatory Agency.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of SFH, Dr. Omokhudu Idogho, made the call during a strategic advocacy visit to Governor Abdullahi A. Sule in Lafia.
The SFH delegation was received by the governor alongside the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner for Health and Commissioner for Water Resources.
While introducing the delegation, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, commended the longstanding partnership between SFH and the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health.
He acknowledged the organisation’s contributions to strengthening healthcare delivery and supporting various health-sector interventions across the state.
Idogho commended Governor Sule for his leadership and commitment to improving healthcare delivery and strengthening health institutions in the state.
He particularly applauded the establishment of the State Private Health Institution Regulatory Agency, describing it as an important step towards improving regulation and quality of care within the private health sector.
He urged the governor to provide the agency with the necessary take-off support to enable it to commence effective operations.
Idogho said SFH had partnered with Nasarawa State for more than two decades in areas including health-system strengthening, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent and elderly health (RMNCAEH), prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, community engagement, private-sector integration and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
He added that SFH had also supported communities without access to potable water through the construction of boreholes.
Responding, Governor Sule commended SFH for its continued technical and financial support to the state’s health sector.
The governor expressed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to potable water, particularly for underserved and marginalised communities.
He said the state would continue to explore interventions, including the construction of additional boreholes, to address water challenges in communities.
SFH reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its partnership with the Nasarawa State Government and supporting initiatives aimed at building a stronger health system and improving the wellbeing of women, children, adolescents and communities across the state.
