Nigeria has recorded a major milestone in its digital transformation drive as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) formally assumed control of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) infrastructure.
The handover ceremony, held in Abuja, marks a significant step in advancing digital governance, underpinned by a strategic partnership between NITDA and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The NGEA initiative is a core component of Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, designed to establish a coordinated framework for managing government IT investments and critical digital resources.
The system is expected to improve efficiency by aligning digital infrastructure with national priorities.
With the platform now operational, government institutions will benefit from improved system integration, enabling seamless data exchange and interoperability across agencies. This is expected to enhance risk management, reduce duplication, and ensure more effective implementation of government programmes.
Over the past two and a half years, Nigerian technical experts have worked closely with their Korean counterparts to develop a unified enterprise architecture framework.
The collaboration also led to the creation of key reference models and the rollout of pilot programmes across major institutions, including the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and NITDA itself.
Beyond its technical functions, the NGEA framework represents a shift from fragmented digital systems to a more coordinated and citizen-focused government ecosystem.
The infrastructure is hosted by Galaxy Backbone Limited, providing a secure and resilient platform for nationwide deployment.
Looking ahead, NITDA is expected to continue working with stakeholders across the public sector to ensure the effective implementation, scalability, and sustainability of the system.
Strategic oversight and policy direction will be provided by the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, with the goal of strengthening service delivery and promoting smarter governance across the country.
