Residents of Sarina town in Garko Local Government Area of Kano State have raised alarm over worsening water scarcity, as the Sarina Youth Forum for Community Development intensified advocacy efforts to draw government attention to the crisis.
The community has been grappling with a severe shortage of potable water, with a 25-litre jerrycan now selling for as high as ₦500, placing a heavy burden on residents.

In response, the Forum, led by Salisu Abdu Isah, on April 8, 2026, embarked on an advocacy visit to key stakeholders to seek urgent intervention.

During the visit, the delegation met with Murtala Muhammad Kadage, a member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Garko Constituency, where they presented a formal document detailing the extent of the water crisis and its impact on the community.

Responding, the lawmaker commended the group’s initiative and pledged to work closely with the association to address the situation. He also announced a donation of ₦1 million to support minor operational challenges at Kafin Kici, aimed at sustaining water supply to Sarina town.
The group further took its advocacy to the Kano State Water Board, where a formal appeal was submitted to the Managing Director, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and long-term solutions.
Despite repeated promises by political leaders over the years, residents say the water crisis has persisted, with little or no meaningful progress in providing sustainable access to clean drinking water.

Community members are now calling on the government and relevant stakeholders to move beyond promises and take decisive action to address the long-standing challenge affecting health, livelihoods, and overall well-being in Sarina.
The latest move by the youth forum underscores growing pressure on authorities to deliver lasting solutions to one of the community’s most critical needs.
