The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has been honoured with a Public Sector Reform Award by Aljazirah Media in recognition of his leadership and contributions to institutional reforms.
The award was presented during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Aljazirah Media to the NCS Headquarters. The delegation was led by the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Etuk Bassey, alongside representatives from Nigeria, London, and other parts of the world.
Presenting the award, Bassey said the recognition followed extensive assessments of Adeniyi’s performance in public service, particularly his role in driving reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service.
He noted that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the Service has recorded notable improvements in revenue generation, operational efficiency, and digital transformation.
According to him, the organisation conducted both local and international reviews before arriving at its decision.
“We investigated extensively, both locally and internationally, and found no trace of corrupt practices—only a record of discipline, reform, and measurable impact,” Bassey said.
He added that the award was designed to recognise a public servant whose integrity and reform-driven leadership have earned widespread admiration within and outside Nigeria.
In his response, Adeniyi expressed appreciation to Aljazirah Media for the honour, describing it as a motivation to further strengthen transparency, professionalism, and accountability within the Service.
He emphasised that the recognition reflects the collective efforts of officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service, who remain committed to delivering on the agency’s mandate.
“This recognition inspires us to continue promoting transparency and strengthening public trust in our operations,” Adeniyi said.
