The Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of the Information Officer of Tarauni Local Government Area, has organized a public awareness and sensitization programme to mobilize residents for the ongoing third phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The sensitization programme, held at the Islamic Centre in Tarauni Local Government Area, brought together government officials, traditional rulers, electoral officers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to educate residents on the importance of voter registration and democratic participation.
Residents Decry Absence of INEC Officials at Kano CVR Centre
Speaking during the event, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and Chairman of the State Committee on Public Enlightenment on Voter Registration, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, described voter registration as a fundamental civic responsibility that enables citizens to actively participate in the democratic process.
He urged all eligible residents, particularly youths and women who have attained the age of 18, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that the PVC remains a critical requirement for exercising the right to vote during elections.
According to Kiru, the sensitization exercise also enlightened participants on various voter registration services, including new registration, transfer of voting locations, correction of personal information, and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards.
He encouraged participants to serve as ambassadors of the campaign by spreading the message within their communities and ensuring that eligible citizens take advantage of the registration exercise before the deadline.
The Chairman of Tarauni Local Government, Ahmed Sekure, represented by his Deputy, Khalid Ayuba, alongside the Leader of Councillors, Ali Idris , commended the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs for sustaining public enlightenment efforts aimed at increasing voter participation across the state.
Also speaking, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Electoral Officer for Tarauni Local Government, Bashir Tanimu Saulawa, represented by Halima Ahmed, and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Officer in the area, Abba Kaumi, praised the Ministry of Information, the Office of the Information Officer, and the local government council for organizing the awareness campaign.
The officials called on residents to visit INEC offices within the local government and their respective wards to register for voter cards or collect already processed PVCs. They reminded the public that the voter registration exercise is scheduled to end on July 10 and urged eligible citizens not to wait until the last minute before registering.
Representatives of the local government administration and traditional institutions, including the Acting Director, Malam Nazifi Bello, the District Head of Tarauni, Alhaji Bello Ado Bayero, and the District Head of Darmanawa, Alhaji Mujitaba Abba Abubakar, pledged continued support for voter education initiatives.

They assured that religious leaders, ward heads, community leaders, and civil society organizations would be mobilized to sustain awareness efforts and encourage wider participation in the voter registration exercise, which aims to strengthen democratic governance and civic engagement in Kano State.
