The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) has officially selected the University of Calabar (UNICAL) as the host of the 28th edition of the Nigerian Universities Games, scheduled to hold from November 14 to 24, 2026.
The upcoming Games will be hosted by the University of Calabar and are expected to bring together about 95 universities across Nigeria. More than 10,000 participants—including athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators—are anticipated to take part in the multi-sport event.
AFN Targets Medal-Rich Events for U18/U20 African Athletics Championship
The competition will feature 24 sporting disciplines, making it one of the largest gatherings in Nigeria’s university sports calendar. Organisers say the event will provide a platform for talent discovery, athletic development, and national integration among young people.
Speaking on the development, NUGA President, Bawa Mohammed, described the Games as a key opportunity to promote unity and strengthen the structure of university sports in Nigeria.
The University of Calabar has also reaffirmed its readiness to host the event, pledging commitment to sports development, infrastructure upgrades, and smooth coordination of the Games.
