The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) has selected the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, as one of the 10 Most Influential Women in Kano State, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, leadership and the advancement of women’s development.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by a high-powered CS-SUNN delegation to the Vice Chancellor’s Office at Northwest University Kano.
Leading the delegation, CS-SUNN Programme Manager, Mr. Ridwan Awosanya, said the visit was to formally notify the university management of the honour bestowed on Professor Bayero under the organisation’s initiative to recognise women making significant contributions to society.
According to him, CS-SUNN remains committed to promoting improved nutrition, particularly among women and children, while celebrating female leaders whose influence can strengthen nutrition advocacy and inspire positive change across Kano State.
A representative of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Madu Solomon, commended Northwest University Kano for its commitment to education and human development. She noted that CS-SUNN is implementing national nutrition guidelines through advocacy and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting healthy nutrition practices among women, young people and families.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, who was unavoidably absent, was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aisha Garba Habib.
Professor Habib expressed appreciation to CS-SUNN for the recognition, describing it as a reflection of Professor Bayero’s visionary leadership, dedication to academic excellence and commitment to the empowerment of women and society.
She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote nutrition, women’s empowerment and sustainable development.
As part of the visit, CS-SUNN conducted a pre-inauguration ceremony for the Vice Chancellor’s induction into the prestigious group of Kano’s 10 Most Influential Women, with the date for the formal inauguration to be announced later.
The Registrar of Northwest University Kano, Dr. Isyaku Adamu, thanked CS-SUNN for the honour, describing it as a source of pride for the university community. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting programmes that promote education, public health, nutrition and women’s development.
