The Kano State House of Assembly has pledged to use its legislative powers to support efforts aimed at upgrading the standard of Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) and enabling the station to compete favourably with other media organisations across the country.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Sa’ad Aminu Sa’ad Ungogo, who represents Ungogo Constituency, stated this during a roundtable discussion with the management of ARTV at the State House of Assembly.
Sa’ad Aminu Sa’ad said the meeting was aimed at exploring ways to improve the station’s standard, operations and overall performance.
He explained that the Assembly was committed to supporting initiatives aimed at repositioning ARTV to effectively discharge its responsibilities as a government-owned broadcasting station.
The lawmaker stressed the need for the state government to improve the station’s infrastructure, provide modern broadcasting equipment and strengthen staff capacity through adequate funding to achieve the desired transformation.
Also speaking, a senior member of the committee, Salisu Ibrahim Muhammad Riruwai representing Doguwa Constituency, described ARTV as Kano State’s only government-owned television station.
He called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to sustain his support for the station, stressing that a stronger ARTV would contribute significantly to informing, educating and entertaining the people of Kano State and the country at large.
In her remarks, the Managing Director of ARTV, Hajiya Hauwa Isa Ibrahim, who was represented by her Deputy, Alhaji Idris Abba, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what she described as his foresight and exemplary leadership.
She pledged the management’s commitment to producing quality programmes and implementing initiatives that would further strengthen the station and take ARTV to greater heights.
