The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new electronic system for the registration and capture of data of Nigerians.
The representative of the Bauchi State Coordinator of NIMC, Idris Abubakar Muhammad, disclosed this in Bauchi during the 2026 celebration of the initiative.

Muhammad said the theme of the 2026 celebration, “Nigeria’s Digital Public Ecosystem: Empowering Africa’s Digital Economy,” underscores the importance of accurate identity data and reliable information in driving economic development, strengthening national security and improving the centralisation of government systems.

He explained that the electronic registration and data capture system was designed to improve the accuracy and accessibility of Nigerians’ identity information while making it easier for citizens, particularly those in rural and underserved communities, to access government programmes and services.
According to him, the initiative would contribute to the development of a more efficient digital public ecosystem by improving the availability and integration of reliable data.

Muhammad added that NIMC was collaborating with key government institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and National Population Commission (NPC), to enhance data integration and improve service delivery.
He said stronger coordination among the agencies would support a more centralised and effective identity management system capable of responding to Nigeria’s growing digital and development needs.
