The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has endorsed a proposed partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) aimed at addressing social vices and promoting positive values among students of the institution.
Professor Ibileye stated this while receiving the Kogi State Director of the NOA during a courtesy visit to his office, where discussions centred on possible areas of collaboration between the university and the agency.
The Vice Chancellor described the university environment as the appropriate platform for the NOA to intensify its value reorientation campaigns, noting that many students reside off-campus and are often exposed to negative societal influences.
According to him, the partnership would help strengthen moral values, discipline, patriotism, and responsible citizenship among students.
“The university is a fertile ground for NOA to cultivate good morals and character toward nation-building and raising responsible citizens,” he said.
Professor Ibileye explained that the university had long anticipated such collaboration because both institutions share similar objectives in character moulding and youth development.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would discourage students from engaging in activities capable of tarnishing the image of the institution and undermining societal values.
To sustain the partnership, the Vice Chancellor proposed the creation of a structured engagement platform involving regular sensitization programmes, awareness campaigns, and competitions targeted at students.
He added that such activities would encourage active participation among students while reinforcing positive behavioural values.
The Vice Chancellor commended the NOA Director for the visit and expressed readiness for a productive partnership, while looking forward to receiving a detailed proposal from the agency.
In his remarks, the Kogi State NOA Mrs. Ayedime Alli- Aileku reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to collaborating with educational institutions in promoting national values and reshaping societal attitudes among Nigerian youths.
The proposed partnership is expected to be formalized after the submission and review of a comprehensive proposal by the agency.
