The Deputy Amirul Hajj for Kano State and Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammadu Maharaz, has issued a stern warning to officials involved in the ongoing Hajj exercise against exploiting pilgrims for personal gain, declaring that anyone found engaging in fraudulent practices would face appropriate sanctions.
The Emir gave the warning during a meeting with Local Government Centre Officers at the distribution of Sallah cash gifts provided to Kano pilgrims by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Alhaji Maharaz said the Hajj leadership had received reports alleging that some individuals were exploiting pilgrims during the collection of Hadaya fees by adding unauthorized charges and commissions.
“We have received complaints that some people are allegedly exploiting pilgrims through the collection of Hadaya fees by increasing commissions. This is a fraudulent act and anyone found engaging in such practices will be sanctioned in accordance with the extant laws,” he warned.
The Deputy Amirul Hajj described the allegations as disturbing and contrary to the principles of honesty, accountability and fear of Allah that should guide all officials serving pilgrims in the Holy Land.
According to him, the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board would establish a committee to thoroughly investigate the allegations and ensure that justice is served.
“The Board will set up a committee to investigate these allegations. Anyone found wanting in this regard will be dealt with decisively. We will not tolerate any act that tarnishes the image of Kano State or undermines the welfare of our pilgrims,” he stated.
Alhaji Maharaz reminded officials that Hajj is an act of worship and sacrifice that demands sincerity, patience and selfless service from everyone entrusted with responsibilities.
“Hajj is a sacrifice. Every official must be ready to give his best in serving the pilgrims. We are here to assist them in fulfilling one of the most important obligations of their faith, not to take advantage of them,” he said.
The Emir further stressed that the Sallah gifts provided by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf were meant for all pilgrims without discrimination, warning against any attempt to short-change beneficiaries.
“The money is meant for everyone and it must go round equally. No pilgrim should be deprived of what rightly belongs to him or her. Anyone who feels short-changed should feel free to report to us and we shall take immediate action against any fraudster,” he added.
He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering support for Kano pilgrims and for providing the Sallah gifts aimed at enhancing their comfort and welfare throughout their stay in the Holy Land.
The Deputy Amirul Hajj also urged pilgrims to remain law-abiding, prayerful and cooperative as the Hajj exercise enters its final stages, assuring them that the leadership would continue to safeguard their interests and ensure that they receive all entitlements due to them.
