The Kano State Government has rejected allegations made by Buba Galadima accusing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Department of State Services (DSS) of suppressing opposition voices, describing the claims as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the government said the allegations lacked any factual basis and were aimed at damaging the reputation of the governor and undermining public confidence in democratic institutions.
The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the administration remained committed to protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, including freedom of expression and political participation.

“The allegations are outright false, malicious, and politically contrived. They represent a desperate attempt to malign the integrity of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and create unnecessary tension within Kano State,”
The government also linked Galadima’s remarks to recent political developments, including his removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic, which it said was based on administrative considerations related to performance.
According to the statement, Galadima’s comments appeared to be driven by personal grievances rather than genuine concerns about democracy or civil liberties.
The government further denied any involvement in directing security agencies to intimidate or harass opposition figures, insisting that the DSS and other security institutions operate independently and within the framework of the law.

It emphasized that while the administration welcomes constructive criticism and democratic engagement, it would not tolerate deliberate misinformation, defamation, or actions capable of threatening public peace and stability.
“The Kano State Government remains open to constructive criticism, but freedom of expression does not extend to spreading falsehoods or inciting unrest,”
The government also expressed concern over what it described as the growing spread of misinformation through social media and public platforms, warning political actors and commentators to verify their claims and act responsibly.
It maintained that opposition parties and political actors continue to operate freely in the state and that the media and civic groups remain active without interference.
Reaffirming its position, the government said Governor Yusuf’s administration remains committed to democratic principles, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence, while pledging continued support for security agencies in maintaining law and order across the state.
