The Kano Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) says it is fully prepared to confront and contain any type of disease outbreak that may occur in the state in 2026.
The director general KNCDC, Professor Muhammad Adamu Abbas, made this known after defending the agency’s budget before the Kano State House of Assembly.
Professor Abbas explained that although the agency is new and will be receiving its first official budget next year, this has not stopped it from taking preventive measures and detecting diseases even before they emerge, with the aim of protecting the people and the state of Kano from any health threats.
He revealed that staff of the agency have already been deployed to local government areas bordering Kano and neighbouring states to assess the health situation on the ground and identify any signs of possible outbreaks.
According to him, this will enable KNCDC to take immediate protective measures for Kano.
The DG further stated that KNCDC will begin visiting motor parks across Kano to sensitize drivers and park officials on steps to take whenever a passenger arrives with unknown or suspicious symptoms.
Professor Abbas emphasized that the agency will continue to carry out research and surveillance to detect early signals of any potential disease outbreaks in order to safeguard public health in Kano.
