The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has organised an inter-agency Tug of War competition as part of activities marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, aimed at promoting unity, teamwork, and collective action in combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The event, held under the leadership of the Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, brought together security agencies, government institutions, schools, and other stakeholders in a demonstration of solidarity against substance abuse.
Participating agencies included the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Army, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as representatives of secondary schools, tertiary institutions, the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (LASPESDA), WADA, and other organisations.
The competition featured three categories: Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions, and Military/Para-Military Agencies.
At the end of the contest, Prime College emerged champion in the Secondary Schools category, while Kano State Polytechnic claimed the top position among tertiary institutions. In the Military/Para-Military category, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured first place, with the NDLEA finishing second and the Nigerian Army taking third position.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Commander CN DY Lawal commended all participating agencies and institutions for their commitment and support, describing the event as a reflection of the importance of collaboration in addressing drug-related challenges.
He stressed that the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking requires a united effort from government agencies, educational institutions, and the wider community, urging stakeholders to sustain the spirit of cooperation beyond the competition.
Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and intensifying drug demand reduction initiatives aimed at building a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
The event formed part of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command’s activities to commemorate the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually to raise awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and mobilise support for preventive measures.
