Northwest University Kano (NWUK) on Monday conducted its 13th Orientation Exercise for newly admitted students of the 2025/2026 academic session, with hundreds of fresh students participating in the event held at the Muhammadu Sanusi II Theatre on the university’s main campus.
The orientation programme, which attracted a large turnout of students, featured a series of lectures and presentations by university management, security agencies, and professionals from various sectors, making it one of the most comprehensive in the institution’s history.
Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, congratulated the fresh entrants and reminded them of the responsibility that comes with being admitted into the institution.
She noted that admission into the university was a privilege, given the large number of applicants seeking placement each year, and urged the students to make the most of the opportunity. The Vice-Chancellor also stressed that students should focus on graduating with outstanding academic results while maintaining exemplary character, emphasizing that university education is founded on both learning and moral conduct.
Professor Bayero further encouraged students to develop entrepreneurial skills and embrace innovation to become self-reliant in an increasingly competitive world. She also warned against examination malpractice and other forms of academic misconduct, urging them to uphold integrity and discipline throughout their academic journey.
In his welcome address, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, congratulated the newly admitted students on securing admission into the university and encouraged them to take full advantage of the orientation exercise to familiarise themselves with the institution’s rules, regulations, and academic culture.
A memorable moment during the programme occurred when a student presented a portrait of the Vice-Chancellor as a birthday gift in recognition of her recent birthday celebration, drawing applause from participants.
The orientation programme provided participants with valuable knowledge and practical guidance aimed at ensuring a smooth transition into university life while preparing them for academic success and responsible citizenship.
University officials expressed optimism that the newly admitted students would uphold the institution’s values and pursue excellence throughout their academic careers, reaffirming NWUK’s commitment to producing graduates who are academically competent, morally upright, innovative, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.
