The Katsina State Government has commenced the SAARMAN 2 Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign with Azithromycin, reaffirming its commitment to improving child survival and reducing preventable childhood illnesses across the state.
The intervention targets eligible children with Azithromycin as part of a proven public health strategy designed to reduce child mortality and improve health outcomes, particularly in underserved and high-burden communities.
Speaking during the flag-off of the campaign, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHCA) said the initiative reflects the state government’s unwavering commitment to delivering life-saving health interventions to every eligible child through strong collaboration with development partners, local government authorities, healthcare workers, and community leaders.
The Executive Secretary noted that the campaign is expected to strengthen child health by expanding access to preventive healthcare services and ensuring that vulnerable children benefit from evidence-based interventions.
He emphasized that the success of the exercise depends largely on the active participation of parents, caregivers, and community members, urging them to present all eligible children for the administration of the medication and to support health workers throughout the campaign.
According to the agency, the mass administration of Azithromycin forms part of broader efforts to improve child survival, reduce preventable deaths, and strengthen primary healthcare delivery across Katsina State.
The Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners and communities to ensure that no eligible child is left behind, while advancing equitable access to quality healthcare services for all children in the state.
