President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a High Capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Daughter Booster Station in Jahi, Abuja, describing the project as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, more affordable, and sustainable energy sources.
Represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the facility aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which seeks to drive industrialisation, enhance energy security, and promote economic diversification.
The CNG station was developed by Rolling Energy Limited in partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), a directorate under the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
According to the President, the project forms part of broader efforts by the administration to expand gas infrastructure and increase access to cleaner energy alternatives across the country.
The Jahi facility is one of four MDGIF-backed investment projects commissioned simultaneously across Nigeria. The other projects are being implemented by IBILE Oil and Gas and Portland Energy in Ojota, Lagos State, as well as FEMADEC Energy at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State.
Speaking at the event, the Authority Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, Mallam Rabiu Umar, represented by the Abuja Regional Coordinator of the Authority, Hajiya Maijidda Abdulkadir, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to effective regulation, safety, and compliance within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding gas sector.
He noted that the Authority would continue to provide the regulatory support required to ensure the sustainable growth of gas infrastructure and investments nationwide.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of MDGIF, Mr. Oluwole Adama, represented by the Fund’s Director of Project Management, Dr. Hussaini Basaka, said the Fund remains focused on supporting projects that enhance energy access, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to national development.
Chairman of Rolling Energy Limited, Mr. Mubarak Umar Dambata, disclosed that the newly commissioned station has a sales capacity of 1,000 Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) per hour and is capable of serving more than 1,000 CNG-powered vehicles and 100 trucks daily.
He said the facility would significantly improve gas supply and distribution in Abuja and surrounding communities while supporting the growing adoption of CNG as an alternative fuel source.
The Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, described the project as a reflection of the Tinubu administration’s long-term vision of reducing dependence on expensive conventional fuels through the adoption of cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr. Sunday Dare, revealed that the Federal Government had commissioned 25 projects across the country to mark the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
According to him, several of the projects are focused on clean energy development and the expansion of gas infrastructure, underscoring the administration’s commitment to energy transition and economic growth.
The commissioning of the Jahi CNG Booster Station is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s gas value chain, support cleaner transportation, and advance the country’s broader energy transition agenda.
