The Dr. Ambassador Umar Shu’aibu Gwarzo Foundation has launched an intensive health mobilization campaign aimed at eradicating maternal and child deaths resulting from preventable complications across communities in Kano State and beyond.
Speaking at the Foundation’s headquarters during the official flag-off ceremony, the Founder and Chairman, Dr. Ambassador Umar Shu’aibu Gwarzo, said the initiative seeks to educate and empower women, families, and communities on the importance of antenatal care and safe delivery practices under medical supervision.
He described the high rate of maternal and infant mortality as deeply concerning, particularly in rural areas where access to skilled healthcare remains limited.
Kano Govt Approves Construction of Two Major Roads in Gwarzo
Dr. Gwarzo disclosed that the Foundation has commenced medical outreach programs in selected local government areas to provide free health screening, counseling, and nutritional support for pregnant women and nursing mothers.
He added that trained health volunteers are also visiting households to sensitize families on safe motherhood, hygiene, and early medical reporting.
The philanthropist commended the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf (Abba Gida-Gida), for his commitment to improving healthcare delivery across both urban and rural areas.
Dr. Gwarzo said such government commitment provides an enabling environment for organizations like his to complement state efforts in saving lives and promoting public health awareness.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Administration and Community Development, Dr. Baffa Datti Gwarzo, described the campaign ”s a timely and humanitarian response to challenges affecting women and children in underserved communities.

He highlighted that the Foundation’s approach is guided by collaboration, compassion, and continuity, emphasizing that every pregnancy deserves professional care, community support, and attention from qualified health workers.
The Foundation also announced plans to expand its outreach programs to cover additional local government areas and provide medical kits, delivery materials, and nutritional supplements to expectant mothers.
Dr. Gwarzo called on stakeholders including government agencies, development partners, and traditional leaders to unite in the collective effort to end preventable maternal and child deaths.
