Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has described the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) as the largest union in the country, noting that it has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s development and national unity.
The Governor made this statement while receiving the national leadership of the union, led by the National Chairman, Board of Trustees, Comrade Najeef Usman Yasin, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris commended the union for its continuous support for government policies and programmes, adding that his administration is working closely with NURTW to ensure a cordial working relationship.
He disclosed that the state government has constructed a new modern Central Motor Park, which is ready for commissioning and is expected to compete favourably with those in other states of the federation.
The Governor further revealed that 50 vehicles have been procured for mass transit services to ease transportation challenges, particularly for people at the grassroots.
He added that all the 21 local government areas in the state will procure buses to convey their residents to the state capital and other destinations.
According to him, his administration has embarked on the construction of numerous road projects across the state, stressing that safer roads are crucial for drivers, commuters, and passengers. He assured that more projects would be executed in the next two years.
Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman, Board of Trustees of NURTW, Comrade Najeef Usman Yasin, praised Governor Nasir Idris for delivering beyond expectations, especially in the areas of road infrastructure, construction of a modern central motor park, and fostering unity within the union in the state.
The union leadership pledged its total support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the implementation of his campaign promises, including the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway Project, which they noted is already ongoing.
They commended the project for its modern features such as solar-powered streetlights, water facilities, and police stations.
