The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has reaffirmed his strong commitment to educational development with the disbursement of scholarships to 4,183 students of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, from Kano North Senatorial District.
The beneficiaries, comprising both male and female students enrolled in Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Degree (B.Ed) programmes, received ₦20,000 and ₦50,000 respectively.
The scholarship disbursement was carried out on Wednesday at the college’s theatre hall by a delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdallah.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Senator Barau on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the Provost of the institution, Dr. Kabiru Musa Bichi represented by the Deputy Provost, Dr. Bashir Sabo Abubakar received the delegation alongside members of the college management.
Speaking at the event, Professor Abdallah described the intervention as part of Senator Barau’s sustained investment in education across Kano North and beyond.
“We are here, as we do every year, to support students from Kano North Senatorial District. This scholarship covers both NCE and Degree students, with ₦20,000 for NCE candidates and ₦50,000 for Degree students,”
He noted that similar scholarship interventions have been extended to students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Northwest University, and other Colleges of Education.

He further disclosed that Senator Barau has executed several projects at FCE (Technical) Bichi, including the construction of academic blocks, provision of solar streetlights, reading halls, and other critical infrastructure.
In his remarks, the Deputy Provost, Dr. Bashir Sabo Abubakar, described the scholarship scheme as life-changing, noting that the institution has consistently benefited from the initiative over the past three years.
“Each year, the number of beneficiaries continues to increase, which clearly shows that the Deputy President of the Senate places top priority on education.
He is currently constructing our administrative block at the permanent site at a multibillion-naira cost and has provided solar streetlights at both the temporary and permanent sites, greatly enhancing security,”
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, especially for registration and academic purposes, while conveying the appreciation of the institution’s management and students to Senator Barau.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the Deputy President of the Senate, Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi, disclosed that about 60 per cent of the beneficiaries are women, emphasizing that educating a woman is tantamount to educating an entire society.
A former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Professor Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, also commended Senator Barau for the initiative.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Deputy President of the Senate, describing the scholarship as timely and impactful.
“Senator Barau is an exceptional leader who champions the transformation of education in Kano. He leads by example. We are deeply grateful and pray that Almighty Allah continues to guide and reward him,” said one of the beneficiaries, Khadija Abdullahi.
